Illustrated by Nakkaş Osman, the chief miniaturist of the Ottoman Empire in 1588, this miniature narrates the circumcision feast of Prince Mehmed, son of Murat the Third, and also provides significant information about certain occupational groups, while featuring fractions of the era’s everyday life. It is worth noting that among the highly important occupational guilds of artists and craftspeople—architects, glassmakers, pottery makers—street sweepers, who maintain the town, are also included within the guild pageantry.
